Immunotherapy Education for Cancer Patients and Caregivers

Published Abstract – BMJ Journals

Background

As immunotherapy becomes more common in cancer treatment, there’s an urgent need to develop educational resources tailored to the needs of patients and caregivers. A nonprofit cancer support organization commissioned Ready to Launch Research to evaluate and refine these materials for greater clarity and relevance.

Methodology

In June 2020, we hosted a moderated online discussion board with 8 cancer patients and 2 caregivers who had experience with immunotherapy. Participants reviewed two draft booklets and provided open-ended feedback on clarity, content gaps, and readability.

Impact

Participants requested more information about differences in immunotherapy types, side effects, cost, and insurance coverage. These insights directly shaped the final version of the “Frankly Speaking About Cancer: Immunotherapy” series. Distributed through 50+ support centers and CancerSupportCommunity.org, the materials now serve as essential tools in nonprofit cancer education and oncology patient engagement.
